The Coalition just confirmed the Nov. 7 birthday gift: RAAM is free for every Gears of War: E-Day player. The 20 Years of Gears event modes are live now, and Season 2: Legacy arrives December 1 with classic maps, modes and skins like Solemn Memories Dom.
Gears of War turns 20 tomorrow, and The Coalition just showed up with the gift fans have been waiting on. In a new Xbox Wire post from Studio Brand Director Nicole Fawcette, the studio confirmed that RAAM is free for every Gears of War: E-Day player starting November 7. The same post locks in Season 2: Legacy for December 1 and spells out the limited-time anniversary modes that are already running.
The key facts
- RAAM is free tomorrow (November 7). Every Gears of War: E-Day player gets him as a multiplayer character. Just log in to claim him instantly.
- The 20 Years of Gears event is already live. It is a two-week anniversary event inside E-Day with limited-time modes and new rewards.
- Versus mode: Guardian. Only one leader makes it out alive.
- Horde Siege mode: For the Queen. The supply cache is disabled, so your squad has to lean on its loadouts.
- Season 2: Legacy launches December 1. Fan-favorite maps, modes and character skins come back, including Solemn Memories Dom (the Dom and Maria photo suit from Gears of War 2).
- Where to play: Gears of War: E-Day is out on Xbox Series X|S and PC (Xbox app and Steam), and it is on Game Pass.
What you need to know
The birthday gift: free RAAM on November 7
November 7, 2026 is the exact 20th anniversary of the original Gears of War on Xbox 360. The Coalition had already teased “a special birthday gift for all Gears of War: E-Day players” for that date. Today it named the gift.
Per Xbox Wire: “Tomorrow is the exact date of our anniversary and to celebrate we’re giving away RAAM as a multiplayer character to every Gears of War: E-Day player as a free gift. Just login to claim him instantly.”
Free RAAM Tomorrow for Every Gears of War: E-Day Player, and Season 2: Legacy Hits December 1Official Gears of War on X put it even shorter: “For our 20th Anniversary, RAAM Returns. Free Character for all players, starting tomorrow.”
Limited-time anniversary modes (live now)
The two-week event kicked off this week. Here’s what is in it, straight from The Coalition:
- Versus: Guardian: only one leader makes it out alive.
- Horde Siege: For the Queen: supply cache is off; play off your loadouts.
- New rewards tied to the anniversary event.
Season 2: Legacy (December 1)
Season 1: Emergence wraps as Season 2 begins. Xbox Wire says Legacy “continues to honor the greatest hits of Gears over 20 years in our maps, modes and multiplayer skins.”
One skin they called out by name: Solemn Memories Dom, which “depicts him in the suit he’s wearing in the famous photo of him and Maria from Gears of War 2.”
That matches what The Coalition previewed earlier for Season 2 as a love letter to franchise history, including the Dead Serious Legendary Character skin tied to E-Day’s Seriously-style achievement.
How we got here
The 20 Years of Gears event started November 3 after a content update that also cleaned up missing achievements, campaign blockers and the skeleton bug. We covered that kickoff here. Today’s Wire post is the payoff: the Nov. 7 gift is named, the modes are detailed, and Season 2 has a hard date.

OnPoint’s take: This is how you celebrate 20 years of an Xbox franchise. Not a trailer dump and a shrug. Free RAAM for every player on the exact anniversary date, limited modes that actually change how you play, and a Season 2 built around the greatest hits. Gears built Xbox. The Coalition is treating that like it matters, and Night Shift fans are going to be talking about this one this evening. Log in tomorrow, claim the Locust general, and start clearing calendar space for December 1. What a time to be an Xbox fan.
