Fallout 76 finally runs natively on Xbox Series X|S, and the Pint-Sized Slasher is back haunting Appalachia. What a great time to jump in.
Verdict Play It Now
I’ve been waiting a long time for Fallout 76’s next gen update, and I told myself I’d jump back in the moment it landed. It landed with The Slasher, and the upgrade is insane.

What it is
The Slasher is Fallout 76’s fall update, released September 15, 2026. A cult of fanatics in clown masks is leaving bodies across Appalachia in tribute to the Pint-Sized Slasher, and the story rolls out over several weeks through updates on the Debunker radio station. You hunt for clues, dig up unmarked graves and fight off fanatics before facing the Pint-Sized imposter himself, with a unique Power Armor set and a new weapon, the Super Slasher, up for grabs.
What you need to know
- Native Xbox Series X|S version: targets 60 FPS, 4K on Series X and VRR (capped at 60) on compatible displays.
- How to get it: you have to download the new Xbox Series version from the Xbox Store. Bethesda recommends uninstalling the old version first.
- Start the story: tune your Pip-Boy to the “Breaking News” station.
- Unique weapon crafting: change Legendary mods on uniquely named weapons and add a 4th Legendary mod.
- Season 26: Beware the Blood Moon, plus new Legacy Seasons that bring back rewards from past seasons.
- New seasonal fish for fall.

It looks amazing
You can tell right away the game’s been upgraded. Walking around Appalachia, it looks really nice, and by the end of my session, watching the sunrise over my camp, I was blown away. They upgraded the heck out of this game. It’s absolutely beautiful.

Back in the wasteland
Coming back after a while meant a few surprises. Some of my perk cards got unequipped and a few camp items got scrapped, but rebuilding my build reminded me how much you can customize the way you play. The Debunker radio broadcast sets up the Slasher mystery in a fun, creepy way. I spent a good chunk of my session fixing up my house with chairs, lights, a fire and storage, then even played some music. It’s crazy how they’ve kept this game alive for so long, and there’s cool stuff coming over the next year too.
