Xbox CEO Asha Sharma says the franchise just crossed $40B all time, calling Modern Warfare 4 one of the most celebrated Call of Duty games ever.
Call of Duty just hit a number most entertainment franchises never touch. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma posted on X today, October 26, that the series has now earned $40 billion in lifetime franchise revenue.
Her exact words: “One of the most celebrated Call of Duty games in its 24-year history, and now $40B in lifetime franchise revenue. An incredible milestone. Congrats to the Activision team. And to the players, thank you for being with us.” The post came with a graphic of review scores for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
Modern Warfare 4, from Infinity Ward, launched Friday, October 23 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Captain Price back for a campaign set on the Korean Peninsula, plus multiplayer and the return of DMZ. The $40 billion figure covers the whole franchise across its history, not just Modern Warfare 4. Sharma has talked up the brand before, telling Entertainment Weekly that “Call of Duty is bigger than the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
OnPoint’s take: This is a gigantic W for Xbox. Remember all the noise about whether the Activision deal would ever pay off? The biggest shooter on the planet now lives under the Xbox banner, its newest entry is landing with critics, and the boss is out here posting the receipts. Xbox talking numbers this openly is a power move, and it’s Asha on offense again. What a time to be an Xbox fan. Are you running MW4 on Series X or PC? Let us know.
