Snow Bike Mike is still everywhere at Kinda Funny in 2026, from the Kinda Funny Gamescast to hosting The Buzz, the weekly community-update show. Long before that, I was a fan watching him from the outside, so getting to talk with him on the PAX East floor, Boston skyline behind us, was a highlight.

If you don’t know Kinda Funny, it’s the independent gaming and entertainment network, and it’s grown into one of the biggest creator-run outlets in the space. Mike is a big part of its Xbox coverage, and in May 2023 he sat across from Xbox’s Phil Spencer for an Xcast interview that covered the Activision Blizzard deal.

Mike talked about going from watching Kinda Funny in a spare bedroom to working in their studio, what it was like to sit across from Phil Spencer, and how he deals with the negativity that comes with being on camera every day.

Answers below are lightly edited for length and readability.

What you need to know

  • Who: Snow Bike Mike, host and personality at Kinda Funny.
  • Where: PAX East, Boston.
  • Length: 12:47.
  • Highlights: from fan to host, the Kinda Funny studio, the Phil Spencer interview, handling negativity, and his advice to creators.

Representing Kinda Funny

Snow Bike Mike: “This time it’s different… Now I get to represent Kinda Funny Games, and that’s a big honor for me to be able to represent the company and the team.”

“I’ll get to hang out with the Obsidian team to talk all things Grounded.”

(Grounded is Obsidian Entertainment’s backyard survival game, where you play as kids shrunk to the size of an ant.)

From the spare bedroom to the big studio

Snow Bike Mike: “I’ve been watching Kinda Funny since 2015, when they were in the spare bedroom, and I think what made that so special was four guys gathered around the table in an intimate space sharing their passions and the fun, and it has slowly grown into something beautiful.”

“I got brought on during COVID, so we were working from home… To get the call to say, ‘Hey, the studio’s done, it’s time to come down,’ was very special, and now we’re in this state-of-the-art studio. It feels like ESPN.”

Living the dream

Snow Bike Mike: “I get to walk in there and it’s all my friends, and we get to smile and say, ‘Hey, what goofy thing are we going to do today?’… It is the dream come true… I don’t like weekends anymore.”

The Phil Spencer interview

Context: Mike hosted Phil Spencer on Kinda Funny Xcast Episode 137 in May 2023, a big one for a host who came up from the community.

Snow Bike Mike: “I’m honored to have the opportunity to represent the team, most importantly our community, and be able to host these interviews. I never thought, if you asked me this two years ago, that I would ever be able to do such a thing.”

“I just want to talk positively with Phil, right? I want to share the fun, because that’s what it’s always been for me, but there is a moment where it’s like, hey, this is a growth opportunity, and I’ve grown a lot.”

“Xbox believes in us… We’ll get critical, we’ll be real, but we’re not going to tear anyone down.”

Handling negativity

Snow Bike Mike: “It’s easy to let it hurt. It’s easy to let it pierce you, especially someone like me who is probably overly positive in a lot of people’s minds. But I am who you see.”

“The people that enjoy your content are most likely enjoying it throughout their day. They smile, they laugh with you… but then never comment.”

“If the team at Kinda Funny nods and goes, ‘Hey, that was a good interview, Mike,’ then I’ve done my job… and I’ll call Mom and Dad and I’ll get my hype and positivity from them.”

His advice to creators

Snow Bike Mike: “Everyone will get the moment. It is just the opportunity of, are you ready for it? If you get the phone call, are you willing to say yes and take a step through that threshold of, I’m scared, I have butterflies in my stomach, but I’m ready to have some fun?”

“Encourage others, uplift others, and keep going.”

OnPoint’s take

Mike is proof that the positive lane works. He went from fan to one of the faces of gaming’s biggest independent channels by being exactly who he is, and his point about the quiet majority who enjoy your work without commenting is something every creator needs to hear. He was also kind enough to hype up our family channel on a packed show floor. Two years later, he’s still at it, and still bringing the energy.
