New details are out on a canceled PlayStation first-party shooter that almost nobody knew existed.

On November 6, 2026, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson published a report on Dark Outlaw Games’ DOOM-inspired project after a November 5 YouTube investigation by creator Glitching Queen. Dark Outlaw Games is PlayStation-owned. The project was canceled earlier this year. Henderson says he has been sitting on gigabytes of screenshots, footage and documents on the title for a book on canceled games.

What you need to know

  • Studio: Dark Outlaw Games, PlayStation-owned.
  • Codename: Ignite.
  • Status: canceled earlier this year.
  • Who surfaced it: Glitching Queen’s 22-minute YouTube video (Nov 5, 2026), with further design detail and cancel context from Henderson / Insider Gaming.
  • Inspiration: heavily inspired by the DOOM series. Per Henderson, gameplay and level design lined up more with DOOM Eternal than with what people would expect from Call of Duty Zombies, even with leadership’s past work on that mode.
  • Structure: linear, story-driven narrative across levels. Levels similar in scope and design to Call of Duty, with choreographed and cinematic events.
  • Co-op: playable in co-op.
  • Cancel reason (per internal emails provided to Insider Gaming): not something dramatic. PlayStation executives reprioritized portfolio budget amid ongoing market challenges.

Design details below come from Glitching Queen’s investigation and from documents Henderson describes. Treat them as canceled-project design intent, not a shipped game.

How Ignite was supposed to play

Per Henderson’s write-up of the design docs and Glitching Queen’s findings:

  • Gore as a core loop: gore was a main feature and key mechanic. The player needed to inflict damage to “feed off” enemies with an amulet the character wore. More damage meant more health, power and related boosts.
  • Layered destruction: enemies had progressive layers of skin, muscle and bone that could be destroyed depending on the gun or melee attack used.
  • Zombies DNA still in the mix: alongside the DOOM inspiration, the team brought Call of Duty Zombies DNA, including a COD Zombies-style horde mode, Easter Eggs, mini games and more.
  • Campaign shape: linear story across levels, cinematic set pieces, co-op support.

Henderson notes that much of Glitching Queen’s video still leaves room for imagination, which he ties to PlayStation’s strict NDAs. His own archive of screenshots, footage and documents is framed as material for a future canceled-games book.

Why it died

This part is attributed to internal emails provided to Insider Gaming, not to public PlayStation messaging:

PlayStation executives reprioritized the studio’s portfolio budget amid ongoing market challenges. Henderson’s framing: it was not canceled because of anything particularly fascinating. Budget priority shift. Project gone.

PlayStation has not posted a public statement on Ignite in the coverage we are citing.

OnPoint’s take: PlayStation owned a studio cooking a DOOM Eternal-style shooter with Zombies DNA, then killed it for budget. Meanwhile Xbox owns id Software and the actual DOOM franchise. That contrast writes itself. Sony can soft-kill a DOOM-inspired project inside its own walls. Xbox ships the real thing. It is what it is.
