What it is

Forever Ago is a single-player road trip adventure from developer Third Shift, published by Annapurna Interactive. After a tragic stroke of fate, Alfred heads north in search of redemption and closure. Along the way you explore places from forest trails to desert barrens, meet characters voiced by well known actors and take photos with Alfred’s instant camera, which also helps you solve small environmental puzzles. You also play through a lifetime of love with his sweetheart, Audrey. The original soundtrack is by Clark Aboud (Slay the Spire, Kind Words). It released October 8, 2026 and joined Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass day one on cloud, console and PC.

The story got me

From the start you’re retracing the steps Alfred took with his late wife, in a yellow camper van, seeing his life through a camera lens. Little things carry weight here, and the moments with Audrey land hard. There’s also a really funny scene at a diner involving a loyalty booth and a QR code that had me laughing. Mixing those lighter beats in with the heavy stuff works.

Simple, but with purpose

The gameplay itself is basic. You walk, look around, interact and take pictures. But every action has a purpose and an impact on the story. The animation is very intentional, too. Alfred moves like a real old man, and that sells it.

The clean art style works really well, and the sunset lighting is just pretty. The music comes in at exactly the right moments and pulls you deeper into what Alfred is feeling.
