What the game is
You are the Ashter, a Slavic fire mage and tracker of mythical beings. You reach a village where reality has warped and the people have left only smoldering hearths. By bonding with fire you see traces, spirits and events ordinary people cannot.
Gameplay, per Xbox Wire’s Next Week blurb, the official site and the Store:
- Explore an open Slavic fantasy village with a magical map.
- Form bonds with bonfires. Each bond reveals new traces and events.
- Fully kindled bonfires become gateways to time travel.
- Travel across four seasons, years apart, and watch the same characters at different stages of life during major Slavic festivals.
- Solve unusual riddles and conduct a supernatural investigation rooted in Slavic mythology.
Steam curator lines lean hard into the atmosphere. Adventure Game Hotspot scored it 93/100 and called it “a beautiful game that takes you on a rich magical journey.” Game Score gave it 8/10 and compared the narrative depth and presentation to What Remains of Edith Finch.
How the Xbox build got its world
Developer Kinga Machowska wrote a full Xbox Wire feature on launch day: From Polish Museums to Xbox. The short version:
- The team partnered with ethnographic museums in Poland, including the Open-Air Museum in Szymbark and the Grociarnia Ethnographic Museum in Jastrzębia.
- They used photogrammetry to scan hundreds of historical objects and entire buildings into the game.
- About 80% of the objects you see while exploring were scanned from real originals.
- Some quests literally started from a museum find, like a traditional hand mill for grinding grain.
- Optional “Learn More” points explain what unfamiliar tools were used for.
- Nature sounds were recorded on location across all four seasons.
Machowska’s closer on Wire: “We can’t wait for you to explore this mysterious Slavic village, uncover its secrets, and discover these pieces of history for yourselves when The End of the Sun is out today on Xbox Series X|S.”

How to get it on Xbox

- Buy at the current sale price if it is still live, or at $24.99 after the launch week ends.
- Install on Xbox Series X|S. Cloud play is listed with game purchase required.
- On PC, it remains on Steam and the studio site endofsun.com.
The End of the Sun Is Out Now on Xbox Series X|SOnPoint’s take: This is exactly the kind of ID@Xbox / indie console drop we want more of. A small Polish team spent years building a first-person adventure out of real museum scans and Slavic folklore, it landed on PC first, and now Series X|S players get the same village with a real launch discount. Bonfires as time gates is a hook that sticks. If you like slow, story-heavy investigation games and you have been waiting for something that is not another live-service checklist, this is your install. Twenty bucks on sale is an easy yes for a weekend mystery.
