Class is back in session. Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School is out today, Thursday, November 5, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, and it lands day one on Xbox Game Pass.
Xbox Wire’s November Wave 1 post lists it for Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, Handheld and PC on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Premium and Essential are not listed for this title. The Xbox Store has the base game at $19.99 and the Deluxe Edition at $29.99.

- Game Pass: day one on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Not listed for Premium or Essential in Wave 1.
- Buy price: $19.99 base. Deluxe Edition $29.99 (includes the Season Pass with two upcoming expansions plus the Mask-uerade cosmetic pack).
- Publisher / developer: iam8bit Presents / Coin Crew Games.

- Unlock hour: Xbox Wire listed the date only. Third-party release-time trackers pointed to about 1 PM ET (18:00 UTC) on November 5. We could not confirm that hour from Xbox Wire or the Store listing itself, so treat the clock time as unverified. The game is dated for today.

What Escape Academy 2 actually is
The first Escape Academy was a hit with more than 4 million players, per the store listing. The sequel keeps the timed, graded escape rooms and adds a big new piece: between rooms you explore the Escape Academy campus as a growing hub world that is itself packed with puzzles and secrets.
Xbox Wire editor Will Fulton, in the spoiler-free tips post, calls that balance the point: intense timed rooms on one side, lower-pressure campus puzzling on the other. He writes that connecting the rooms with an interactive hub “really elevates the whole experience.”
Store and Wire both sell it as “the first open world escape room game,” with a new campaign, character-driven side stories, Escape Bucks currency for optional student side tasks, and a rebuilt look plus a new score from DJ Doseone.
Tips before you hit campus
Straight from Xbox Wire’s tips post (spoiler-free):
- Have a pencil and paper ready. Ciphers and sudoku-style puzzles get easier when you write them down.
- Check everything. If you can pick it up or meaningfully interact with it, you will need it eventually.
- If you see something, say something. In co-op, call out finds out loud so the team is not holding puzzle pieces in silence.
- Think backwards. Start from the exit goal and work back to the clue you already have.
- Use hints. The hint system is multi-step and unobtrusive. Heavy hint use can hurt your grade, but Fulton notes you can still get an A while using one or two, and you may score higher from the time saved.
- Have a side hustle. Optional student side tasks pay Escape Bucks, which you need at several points to progress. Extra Escape Bucks are also hidden around campus (couch cushions, toilets, the usual school nonsense). Stay on top of those as you go.

How to start on Game Pass
- Make sure you are on Game Pass Ultimate (console / cloud / handheld) or PC Game Pass (PC).
- On console: open the Xbox Store, search Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School, or find it under Game Pass. Hit Install / Play with Game Pass.
- On PC: open the Xbox app, find the game under Game Pass, install and launch.
- Cloud: Cloud is listed in Wave 1 for Ultimate. Open Xbox Cloud Gaming, search the title, and play over the cloud if your plan covers it.
- Buying instead: base game is $19.99. Deluxe is $29.99 and adds the Season Pass (two major expansions with new rooms and side quests, all solo or co-op) plus the Mask-uerade animal-mask cosmetic pack.
Online multiplayer on console still needs a Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate subscription, per the Store fine print.
Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School Is Out Now and Day One on Game PassOnPoint’s take: This is the Game Pass value pitch doing what it does best. A polished co-op puzzle sequel drops day one on Ultimate and PC Game Pass, so you can grab a friend this evening and see if the campus hub is as sticky as Xbox Wire says without dropping $20 first. Escape rooms are better with someone to yell “CHECK THE LOCKER” at, and No-Timer Mode means the chill crowd is covered too. If you already planned a Game Pass night, this is an easy install. What a time to be an Xbox fan with a full Wave 1 week.
