Graphics card manufacturers in China are advising distributors to lean on older GeForce RTX 30 series cards and AMD Radeon models because RTX 50 series supply is getting harder to secure. That’s according to a report from ChannelGate (Board Channels), picked up by VideoCardz today. This is a channel report, not an announcement. Nvidia has not commented, and the report covers China only, so it’s unconfirmed whether distributors in the US or Europe are getting the same advice.

What you need to know

  • RTX 50 stock is running low: per the report, some manufacturers are already out of RTX 50 inventory, others have only limited quantities left, and prices are going up.
  • The cards being pushed instead:
    • GeForce RTX 3060 12GB
    • GeForce RTX 3060 8GB
    • GeForce RTX 3050
    • Unspecified AMD Radeon cards
  • Why it’s happening: ChannelGate points to two things, a rise in cryptocurrency mining demand and China’s ongoing e-commerce shopping season.
  • Prices on older cards: ChannelGate expects older GPUs to hold their current prices or get slightly more expensive as distributors look for alternatives.

How we got here

  • Earlier in 2026: Nvidia quietly brought the RTX 3060 back, nearly five years after it first launched. VideoCardz reported in June that Colorful started shipping new RTX 3060 12GB cards in China, with more models later showing up in Europe and the US, and Palit introduced its RTX 3060 Infinity 2 OC in July.
  • August: VideoCardz reported the MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ventus 2X 12GB went from $329.99 to $479.99 at Newegg in less than two months, a 45% jump that made it pricier than newer cards like the RTX 5050.
  • Oct 30: the RTX 5080 disappeared from Nvidia’s official US Marketplace, following the RTX 5090.
  • Nov 2, this morning: a BenchLife report said board partners still haven’t received design kits for the rumored RTX 5080 24GB (our story).
  • Also this month: Valve’s October Steam Hardware Survey put the RTX 3060 back at the top of Steam’s GPU list, tied with the RTX 5070 at 3.78% (our story).

OnPoint’s take: Think about what this says. It’s late 2026 and the card manufacturers are telling stores to sell a GPU from 2021 because they can’t get enough of the new ones. That lines up with everything we’ve been tracking: the 5090 and 5080 vanishing from Nvidia’s own store, the 24GB 5080 stuck waiting on paperwork, and the 3060 climbing back to number one on Steam. Crypto creeping back into the GPU conversation is the last thing PC players wanted to hear. Keep in mind this is one report about China, so don’t panic yet, but if it spreads, the budget end of the market gets squeezed next.

The upside for PC players is that developers can’t ignore the 3060 crowd now. That’s the real audience, so good optimization, DLSS and FSR matter more than ever. And if you’re just trying to play the big holiday games without paying shortage prices, a Series X or Series S with Game Pass doesn’t care what’s happening with GPU stock. Would you buy an RTX 3060 in 2026? Tell us in the comments.
