NetEase locked in the Hutuo anniversary update for Xbox Series X|S on November 13 (PT): a war-torn campaign, three bosses, Dual Spears on November 26, two board-game modes, and anniversary login gifts the publisher's Xbox Wire guest post pegs at more than $150.
Where Winds Meet just got a real date for its first anniversary drop on Xbox. In a new Xbox Wire guest post from Eric, Head of Where Winds Meet Publishing, NetEase confirmed that the Hutuo anniversary update lands on Xbox Series X|S on November 13 (PT). Xbox Wire also posted the lock-in on X.
The key facts
- Hutuo anniversary update: November 13 (PT) on Xbox Series X|S. That is the new war-torn theme region centered on the Battle of Zhongdu Bridge.
- Three headline bosses: Fierce General Xiao Han, Bingshen at Moonveil Knoll, and mystic royal Yelu Abuli.
- Dual Spears martial art: November 26. Motion capture and choreography led by action director Yuen Woo-ping.
- Two new board modes: Horse Racing Chess and Jianghu Tactics.
- Anniversary gifts: The publisher guest post on Xbox Wire pegs login and anniversary-event rewards at more than $150 worth (publisher valuation), including a free Outfit Set of your choice plus draw tickets.
- Game Pass Perks: Wire lists a launch Perks bundle for Game Pass members, plus more anniversary perks coming. That is membership Perks, not a statement that the game is included in the Game Pass catalog.
What you need to know
Hutuo: the war-torn anniversary region
Hutuo is framed as the anniversary theme region: an active mud-and-steel warzone after a sixteen-year conflict, with the frontline defense at Zhongdu Bridge. Wire leans hard into the Wuxia idea of “Xia,” protecting the innocent when institutions fail, with side quests about conflicted soldiers, displaced families, and villagers sheltering refugees.
Bosses and combat
NetEase calls out three encounters that push a more aggressive, stance-heavy fight style:
- Xiao Han (Fierce General): climax of the Hutuo River Campaign. He uses Blood-forged Super Armor. Wire’s tip is high-impact parries, baiting overextended thrusts, then stance-breaking counterstrikes before full damage rotations.
- Bingshen (Moonveil Knoll): rapid gap-closers and sweeping area attacks. Dodge into follow-ups, not away, to punish recoveries.
- Yelu Abuli: ceremonial fire and channeled rituals. Stay mobile, interrupt casts, and pull area hazards off center.
Dual Spears (November 26)
Legendary action director Yuen Woo-ping (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) led motion capture and choreography for Dual Spears. Wire says the Dual-Weapon Skill mid-combo weaves light thrusts (sustained firepower) into heavy downward strikes (stance-breaking impact) without resetting attack frames, aimed at armored targets like Xiao Han.
Horse Racing Chess and Jianghu Tactics
Two tabletop-style breaks from the siege:
- Horse Racing Chess: players are living pieces on the board, roll dice, trigger Mystic Skills, and race to the finish.
- Jianghu Tactics: deeper strategy with the Heroic Spirit roster, board positioning, gear allocation, and character bonds.
Xbox Series X|S presentation
Wire lists Smart Delivery, HDR, AMD FSR 2 upscaling, and a larger-text UI refresh. Series X targets a 4K upscale from 1080p. Series S targets a 2K upscale from 900p, with memory optimizations for smoother play.

Anniversary gifts and Game Pass perks
After the November 13 update, the publisher guest post on Xbox Wire says you log in and take part in anniversary events to claim more than $150 worth of gifts (that dollar figure is the publisher’s valuation in the Wire post, not an independent price check). Just for logging in: choose a free Outfit Set (listed at 2,580 Echo Beads value) from 12 styles, plus 42 Resonating Melody draws and 27 Lingering Melody draws through anniversary events.
Separately, Wire lists a launch Game Pass Perks bundle for members: 450 Echo Jade, 90,000 Coins, 6 Attunement Stones, 30 Large Tuning Stones, 3 Pillow Pills, and 3 Lingering Melodies, with a claim window through January 7, 2027. It adds that more ongoing anniversary perks are coming for Game Pass. Perks are membership benefits; Wire does not say the title is included in the Game Pass game catalog.
OnPoint’s take: This is the kind of live-service drop Xbox players actually care about: a dated region, free anniversary login kits, and a Yuen Woo-ping weapon art on a clear calendar. If you have been dipping in and out of Where Winds Meet on console, mark November 13 (PT) and November 26. Big content with login gifts (and separate Game Pass Perks for members) is a real reason to boot it back up.
