Grand Theft Auto VI preloading starts Tuesday, November 10, two days earlier than the November 12 date Rockstar had been listing since pre-orders opened in June. Rockstar announced it this morning on X: “Grand Theft Auto VI pre-load begins on November 10.”

The detail Xbox players need: per Rockstar’s Newswire post, as reported by VGC and Insider Gaming, the Xbox Series X|S preload opens at 12 AM GMT on November 10. That’s 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT on Monday, November 9 in the US. On other consoles, the preload opens at midnight local time in each player’s own time zone, so there a US East Coast player waits until midnight ET, and a West Coast player waits until midnight PT.

GTA VI still launches November 19, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S.

What you need to know

  • Digital preload date: November 10, 2026 (was November 12).
  • Xbox Series X|S time: 12 AM GMT on November 10, which is:
    • 7 PM ET on Monday, November 9
    • 4 PM PT on Monday, November 9
  • Other consoles: midnight local time on November 10 in each region, so New Zealand players get that preload first, per VGC.
  • Head start on Xbox in the US: 5 hours ahead of the midnight local-time preload on the East Coast (7 PM ET vs midnight ET), and 8 hours ahead on the West Coast (4 PM PT vs midnight PT).
  • Physical “code in box” copies: still November 12. The box has a download code, not a disc, and codes redeemed before launch preload once they’re active.
  • Space needed: up to 212 GB, per Rockstar’s post as reported by VGC and Insider Gaming. That’s in line with the 210 GB number from last week’s datamined store listing.
  • Launch: November 19, 2026.
  • Price: $79.99 Standard Edition, $99.99 Ultimate Edition, per Rockstar’s June pre-order announcement.

How to get ready on Xbox

  1. Pre-order the digital version from the Microsoft Store if you haven’t yet. Digital pre-orders are what unlock the November 10 preload.
  2. Clear 212 GB on your internal drive or an expansion card before Monday night.
  3. Leave your console in Sleep mode (the power option that keeps updates and downloads running) so it can grab the preload on its own.
  4. Pre-order before November 20 to get the Vintage Vice City Pack (’55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage, outfits and hairstyles, an exclusive weapon pattern). Digital pre-orders also come with a free month of GTA+, per Rockstar.

What else Rockstar announced

Rockstar is also putting out an official printable GTA VI cover art poster and map of Leonida as a free digital download from its official site on November 19, launch day. Rockstar’s words, as quoted by Push Square: “On November 19 we will be adding an official printable Grand Theft Auto VI cover art poster and map of Leonida as a free digital download to the official site.” A double-sided physical version is coming shortly after launch: $0.99 on the Rockstar Store, or free as a gift with any Rockstar Store purchase.

What changed

When pre-orders opened June 25, Rockstar and Take-Two said digital buyers could preload on November 12, and that’s what the store listings have shown ever since. As of 10:25 AM ET today, the Rockstar Store page and Rockstar’s support article still say November 12 for the preload. Today’s Newswire post and Rockstar’s X post move the digital preload up to November 10. The November 12 date now only applies to physical code-in-box copies.

This also matters for anyone eyeing the “New Zealand trick” we covered on November 1. Preload timing and unlock timing are separate. Rockstar’s preload news today does not say anything about the November 19 unlock time.

OnPoint’s take: This is a W for Xbox players, off the rip. Rockstar went with one global time on Xbox, and for everybody in the Americas that means you start downloading Monday evening while players on other consoles in the same city are still waiting on midnight. On a 212 GB download, a five to eight hour head start is real, especially for anybody on slower internet. Series S owners, this is your final call: grab that expansion card or start clearing space now, because Monday night is coming fast. Start that preload and let the Xbox do the work while you sleep.
