A video showing what looks like a remake of the original Persona leaked on October 31, and it is all over Persona X and r/GamingLeaksAndRumours. Per Gematsu, the clip was first posted to YouTube by an account named “P1REMAKE” at 5:25 AM ET on Halloween, then copied to file-sharing sites and Reddit. Atlus and SEGA have not confirmed the project or the footage. Treat this as a rumor until they do.

What you need to know

  • What leaked: just under two minutes of footage in a showreel format, split into three parts: field exploration, battles, and event scenes built around 2D illustrations (Gematsu).
  • The name: the original post ties it to a remake called *Persona: Be Your True Mind* (Game Rant).
  • Who shows up: Persona 1 characters including Masao Inaba and Eriko Kirishima, plus Persona 2: Innocent Sin lead Tatsuya Suou in the battle section, even though he is not in the original game (Game Rant, Gematsu).
  • Quality: the clip is only 360p (Push Square).
  • Status: unconfirmed. No statement from Atlus or SEGA.

Why people think it’s real

A few details are doing the heavy lifting here:

  • Unreal Engine debug text sits in the upper-left corner the whole time (Gematsu). Atlus moved its Persona remakes to Unreal Engine starting with Persona 3 Reload.
  • Reused animation: Eriko appears to use the same Persona summon animation as Yukiko Amagi in the unreleased Persona 4 Revival, which Gematsu says lends the footage “further credibility.” Push Square made the same call.
  • The look matches: Game Rant points out the protagonist runs St. Hermelin High School’s halls the same way you move through Tartarus in Persona 3 Reload and the TV World in Persona 4 Revival, and some skills look like Reload’s Theurgy attacks.
  • Atlus has said it wants to: Push Square notes series producer Kazuhisa Wada has talked about Persona 1 and 2 remakes as something Atlus should “eventually do.”

Why some fans aren’t buying it

The Tatsuya cameo is the biggest red flag for skeptics. Gematsu offers two explanations: he could be a stand-in model for another character, or remakes of Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment could be in the works at the same time. Outlets including IGN and Push Square also flag that fake trailers are easier than ever to make, and the low resolution doesn’t help.

Atlus has been here before

This is not new territory. Gematsu says the reel is formatted like the Persona 3 Reload showreel that leaked before that game was announced, and Reload turned out to be very real. Fans on X are already joking about Atlus’s leak streak.

Where this fits on Xbox

The next Persona remake on the calendar is Persona 4 Revival, launching February 18, 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud and Steam, per SEGA and Xbox Wire. It launches day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass and supports Xbox Play Anywhere, and it got its release date at the Xbox Games Showcase. Persona 3 Reload also launched day one on Game Pass in 2024. Push Square thinks that with Persona 4 Revival due in February, a Persona 1 remake is probably still a ways off even if this footage is legit.

OnPoint’s take: We think this one is real. Reused Persona 4 Revival animations and Unreal debug text are not what a random faker nails, and Atlus has leaked like this before. Now look at the pattern Xbox fans are living through: Persona 3 Reload day one on Game Pass, Persona 4 Revival dated on the Xbox Games Showcase stage and launching day one on Game Pass. Persona used to be a series Xbox players had to watch from the outside. Now it lives here. If Atlus really is remaking the original, there is every reason to think Xbox is in line for it. Fifteen years ago that sentence would have been crazy. What a time to be an Xbox fan.
