Resident Evil’s Big Story Is Heading for an Ending in the Next 10 Years, and More Games Are Coming First

Capcom's Jun Takeuchi says the remakes and Requiem closed out the first 10-year plan, the current story wraps within the next decade, and "there will be multiple titles" before it does.

Resident Evil fans, take a breath. The series isn’t going anywhere. But Capcom does have an endgame in mind for the story it’s been telling.

Speaking to Yahoo Japan, Resident Evil executive producer Jun Takeuchi explained that the series’ story “wasn’t planned out from the beginning; it expanded with each new game,” per IGN’s translation. He said the team built a 10-year branding plan while working on the Resident Evil 2 remake, and that players who go through all of the games should “realize the meaning behind the order of the remakes.”

Then the line that got everybody talking: “With the release of Requiem this year, I feel like the first 10 years have come to a close, so I think the conclusion will come in the next 10 years.”

Asked how many games are coming before that conclusion, Takeuchi kept it secret but clear: “I can’t say, because it would spoil the fun for everyone, but there won’t be just one. There will be multiple titles.”

A few things to keep straight:

  • It’s the current storyline, not the series. Wccftech and Metro both read it as the end of a story chapter, not the end of Resident Evil games.
  • Business says so too. Capcom’s latest earnings put the Resident Evil series at more than 218 million units sold, with Resident Evil Requiem at 8.51 million, per VGChartz.
  • Next up: Resident Evil Code: Veronica is slated for 2027, per Metro.

Requiem launched February 27, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, per Capcom.

OnPoint’s take: This is good news, not scary news. A real ending means Capcom is building toward something, and a story with a destination beats one that just keeps going until nobody cares. Capcom has been on a heater with these remakes and Requiem, and Xbox and PC players have been right there for every one of them day one. “Multiple titles” over the next decade is exactly what I wanted to hear. Bring on Code: Veronica, and while you’re at it, Capcom, give us a Resident Evil 5 remake that goes all in on the visuals. What game do you want Capcom to remake next? Let me know in the comments.
