GamenGuide's November 4 check found the $899.99 console out of stock at Amazon, Best Buy, Target, GameStop and PlayStation Direct, while used and reseller listings asked far more. Engadget, citing Playfront, says Sony told partners constraints run into next year.
The PS5 Pro has been hard to buy ahead of Grand Theft Auto VI’s November 19 launch. In a check published November 4, GamenGuide listed the PS5 Pro as sold out at Amazon, Best Buy, Target, GameStop and PlayStation Direct, with no confirmed restock date. OnPoint has not independently confirmed stock as of November 7.
What you need to know
- Price: PS5 Pro MSRP is $899.99, $200 above its $699.99 launch price (Engadget, Oct 11).
- US stock (GamenGuide, Nov 4): sold out at the five retailers above.
- Asking prices, not completed sales:
- How long: Engadget, citing an exclusive from German outlet Playfront, says Sony told distribution partners that “temporary market supply constraints and high demand” will limit stock until next year. Sony has made no public statement.
- Japan: Sony ran a purchase lottery limited to players with 60 hours of playtime between Sept 27, 2024 and Sept 27, 2026 (Radio Times).
- UK (Radio Times, Nov 6, 3:29 AM ET): out of stock at PlayStation Direct UK, Smyths, Argos, Very, Currys, O2, John Lewis and EE; Amazon UK showed limited units.
Why it’s happening
Engadget points to the AI boom squeezing chip and memory supply across consumer tech. Forbes calls it “a mix of demand and supply issues.” Radio Times notes the low stock coincided with GTA 6’s Extended Look.
Over on the Xbox side
GamenGuide’s same November 4 check found Xbox stock “generally good”:
- Series X (disc), $799.99: in stock at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and GameStop; sold out at Target and the Xbox Store.
- Series X All-Digital, $749.99: in stock at Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Walmart; sold out at the Xbox Store.
- Series S 512GB, $499.99: listed everywhere checked, slightly under list at Amazon and Walmart.
- Series S 1TB, $599.99: listed at Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Walmart and the Xbox Store.
On Xbox Series X|S, the GTA 6 preload opens at 7 PM ET on Monday, November 9 in the US. Launch is November 19 for everyone.

OnPoint’s take: As of that November 4 check, the console Sony positions as its top-end machine was the one you couldn’t find at list price, and the asking prices on used units were brutal. If a GTA 6 machine is the goal, Series X and Series S were sitting on shelves at list in the same check. It is what it is.
